Differences/advantages between

    What are the advantages between these three different valve covers? One with a filtered breather on top(1st pic). One with a connection for a hose2nd pic). Finally, one without the breather on top(last pic). I have one without the breather installed currently (with PCV) and then have an extra cover with the filter cap on top. Is one a better setup than the other? If you have the filter cap (1st pic) installed do you still need a pcv valve?

    I have read that before. Refreshed memory. Although, the first pic only has a screen mesh in the cap. Would that be the PCV for the engine? Would you need the PCV valve on the left side of the engine with that filtered top? Sounds like it doesn't really matter as long as you have a vent of some sort.

    The first one is open to atmosphere. Bad for environment. The second is closed system to evacuate crank pressure but not allow contaminants, i.e. water to enter the crank case, good for military and fording applications. The last with a PCV valve reduces emissions to the atmosphere as it pulls the crank case vapors into the intake stream and re-burns them in the combustion process. Mandated in California around '67? and the rest of the country followed shortly thereafter. Nickmil.
