TJ fender cutouts on an Intermediate?

'74 CJ, 4" Skyjacker lift and 33" swampers - but still tearing up tires on the passenger side. No overweight passengers, so I suspect the springs are just a little too flexy. I could put on a small body lift, but don't like the idea.
Time to break out the sawzall.
As long as I'm trimming, I'd like to be able to fit some TJ fender flares on if I ever end up needing them. Anyone used this size cut-out on an intermediate? Can I go this size without running into anything important? I know I could just pick up a fender flare and pencil it out, but it's easier to ask first. Thanks

Think I've seen it done on the back of an iterm 5. :?
Dont recall for sure, it may have been a late 5. ;)

I know I've seen it done on a 7 with YJ front fenders.

Yes, you can sawzall and add TJ flares, I've seen it done, but haven't done it myself... personally I don't care much for the mismatch look of front TJ flares on a CJ; I'd rather see a good flatfender trim of the CJ fenders instead.

Another option: You can eliminate the fender munching without cutting your fenders by installing appropriate bumpstops.
I run 33s with a 2.5" lift and a little body lift... no munching of my stock fenders/CJ flares because I run Rancho bumpstops 2" longer than stock.
The loss of compression articulation isn't that significant where I wheel, droop is more important, so this works well for me.
    YMMV :)

    BTW, welcome aboard!! :D

    First, Welcome from Portland, OR!
Second, please fill out your profile, some of us may be right around the corner and able to help you. Where in Western Washington are you? I live in Portland and am working on the same swap on my CJ-6 with long fenders right now. If you'd like to come take a look........
There is a site that talks about how it can be done but don't remember what it is. Lost the link last time my confuser went down. I think there is a link to it from Off-road.com

One of the issues in the Pacific Northwest is the tire nazi's get upset about tires sticking out from the fenders so the Flares not only help open up the wheel wells but cover the tires as well. Kind of the best of both worlds around here. Nickmil.

Sorry guys - mis-spoke a little. Front fenders aren't a clearance problem, and I'm going to flattie them anyway when I get around to it. I'm looking more for size / clearance info for the rear wheel cutouts.
Thanks for all the info, and I'll update the profile.
