You know those nuts on the bottom of the tub that all the floor covers bolt into? The loose nuts in the "brackets"? I'm not sure but I think they're called "captive nuts"? Does anybody know where to get some of those?:?

Mcmaster Carr sells them, make sure of the thickness of the metal you are installing them in as they are sized by the sheetmetal thicknees as to what ones you use. they are called Panel nut retainers in there catalog.

Thanks Mike! I actually tried a third search for just "nuts", and found this thread... http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13808&highlight=nuts

I had to go out and look, I thought they were spot-welded on, but my tub does have those clip-in type of nuts in square holes. I also found a link to another source, and they called them cage nuts. I guess captive nuts are a different animal.

If you have a nut and bolt store nearby, check with them. Most of these stores call them cage nuts. I have one near that has them in stock. Got mine from them for the floor panels. They're not very expensive.

If you can't find them, PM me and I'll see if this store would be willing to ship you a box. They typically come a 100 to a box.

last time I encountered a rusted out tub in a wrecking yard I found that they can be removed quickly and without damage with a small set of vice grips. I now have a small box of them waiting for the day I restore my tub... of course they may have rusted away to dust before that happens

Thanks Allen! But I'm sure I can get them locally for close to the cost of you shipping them, or less. I don't know offhand how many I'd need either, and the tub is buried in the garage. I'm not to the point where I need them soon anyway, I only asked about them because I happened to think about it. I mainly just wanted to know if they were available or obsolete.

I used to work at the 'ol jet motor factory, and there were a lot of captive nuts there, and a few running around that should have been captive.

Made a couple of calls with no luck, and decided that was a waste of time. Just bought some on-line from McMaster-Carr, 25-pak for $7.86 total. That oughta work.

Belive it or not I found mine at my local Ace hardware. I was shocked to see them. Then again they have like three isles of speciality hardware in the little drawers. I also found the little "spring type" hose clamps that are used on the crank case to air cleaner hose there.
