I saw a blurp here some where that you can put 231 heads on a 225 with some modification could anyone give me a llink or pick on what is involved. found out that it is going to cost a freind of mine 200 to 300 bucks to have the 225 heads machines for new valve guides and 231 heads are plentiful in the local wrecking yards.

Thakyou to all that can help:p

Bolt up is not an issue. However, water passages/ports changed so many times over the years even Buick engineers lost track  Take a 225 head gasket and lay it on a high-port 1979+ head to see how it will match up.

It's a real touchy one and based on the year of heads your trying to match to. If I remember, the real poop can be found in Pat Ganahal's V6 Performance Book. I looked into a few years ago and just stuck with the 225 heads.

It's a big pain in the butt and runs into machine work. Much better off just rebuilding what he has instead of trying to fit something of unknown condition to that engine. Will probably cost much more in the long run to put the 231 used heads on the 225. Nickmil.

Hey thanks Guys for all the responses I think I am going to keep searching for cheaper machine shop to do the work and just have the heads we have refurbished.
