Somebody could have adapter the t98 for the V6 at some point. It is not a new swap. Novak sells th ecorrect input shaft and all you have to do is machine th ebellhosuing o get it to bolt on without an adapter.

There was a guy on one of the older incarnations of this board that did indeed have an original v6 t18 combo, if I remember right it had the 4: ? 1st gear and not the granny gear. My 1971 factory service manual even mentions the 4 speed v6 combo in it. I'm sure it did exist, its probably that very few were ever ordered and as many of these old jeeps that have been crushed or trashed not many have been found or survived.
Someone that has a parts manual should look and see if the 71 models had 2 part #'s for the v6 bellhousing, that would tell if they were available as the t14 bellhousing in 71 has the adapter cast in and that bell would be useless on the t18 transmission.;)

Yes indeed. It's the same 4:1 version that carried over to the 258.

    not quite Mike
the 1-piece bellhousing is the same regardless of T14 or T18
the T18 used an adapter at the 1-piece bellhousing for adapting it to the bellhousing :D

Jim I may be wrong but I don't think the transmission shaft would be long enough to add another adapter to the bellhousing as the bellhousing is already 2" longer then the 66-70 model bellhousing and this would also shorten the rear drive shaft considerably. Have you ever seen a 71 model v6 bellhousing? The face of the bellhousing uses no adapter and is physically the same size as the face of the t86/t14 transmission. The face of the t18 transmission would be at least 2" wider than the bellhousing at the mount up point probably quite a bit more.

What about a sm 420, lower first gear then the t98, and should bolt right to the 225? If you decide to sell the t98 badcop, I would like to buy it for my f-head jeep. Jack

the answer is yes, thank you, on the 1 piece bellhousing.

Mike, the adapter is only about 1-1/4" thick; this is a factory adapter.
it was used on both style bellhousings, 2 piece and 1 piece.
there are 2 different main drive gears listed also
must be 2 different lengths; early and late
the later m/d gear is also the same as the 232 T-18 trans m/d gear
all info comes from the Jeep parts books
    FYI

Nope. '77-'79 CJ's with the 258 engine had an optional T-18 with 6.32-1 first gear. Nickmil.

I too saw one. I didn't have my digicam with me or would have taken pics. Was for sale for $350 with all adapters and bellhousing but didn't have the money to buy. Nickmil.
