You can do about 1" to about 1.5" with a shackle lift, but you may induce a bad "death wobble" if your front end isn't nice and tight in all respects due to the change in the castor angle up front.

A better bet all around is a 1" "add-a leaf" kit, or a complete set of springs all around. You might be amazed at what a new set of stock springs will do for the ride attitude of a Jeep, and for not much more you can go with a 2.5" lift kit. The best buys seem to be a kit with the shocks included, since the stock shocks won't cut it with a 2.5" lift. A lot of guys here have dealt with Bob Supplee out in OK and have been very pleased with both his service and prices. YMMV. ;)

    Cheaper than what?

IMHO a spring lift is the only way. If you can't afford it, wait till you can.

You can do *alot* of four wheeling with a stock-height Jeep. Way more than the 4WD magazines would have you believe.

4Wheelparts has a 2.5" for less than $700. I had a shackle lift and it made the jeep unstable. A spring lift is the way to go because it does not change your front end geometry. Check your TOE after installing the lift.

    Check with Bob,

I just got a BDS 2.5 lift with shocks from him for around $500. The ride quality difference is amazing. The stock 10-leaf springs would shake your teeth out. I'm running 33's with it and have not seen any rubbing yet.

about a year ago I found a guy selling a set of 1" lift springs and a shackle reverse kit that had been installed but never driven, he had given up on the project. picked up all for $200
