Ramsey Pto & Winch

I bought a parts Jeep last week just for the tub. Included was a Ramsey 8,000 pound PTO winch.




At best, it needs some TLC. The drum turns, and the input turns. The shifter won’t move, though.

Is it worth fixing up and mounting on my ‘68? The PTO is on a D20 t-case, but the ‘68 has a D18.

A PTO winch is a tremendous asset, and converts a jeep from a toy to a tool.

I would recommend mounting it if you use your jeep for anything off-road, or for any kind of work on the homestead.

 

If you don't want to mess with it just send it my way.

 

I can do that! You start sending money my way. When I think it’s enough, I’ll ship the winch.

Would you prefer it as-is, or cleaned, repaired and tested?



Truth be told, I’ll probably leave the ‘68 unmollested (spelling?) and clean, fix and sell this Ramsey. The ‘project’ Jeep will get an electric winch.

That is a short winch. I had to section mine to make it work with the saggy steering. The best thing about a worm drive winch, (besides the self-braking aspect), is...they absolutely won't stop, until you put the clutch in, or something breaks.

I Still wonder if I can fit that next to the Saginaw box and still be below my snow plow lift...

I raised my plow hydraulics 8 inches above the winch. Works good for me.

 

Pto tooth count and 18 tooth count are not compatible. It can be done, IF you can find an early Bronco T shift transfer case pto, Rob the gear out of it, install it in your Jeep/IH 20 pto, and install it on your 18 transfer case with 2.46:1 low range (29 tooth input). Have fun with that.

 

Over in the intermediate forum, we’re discussing the D20 transfer case (and, now, the Ramsey PTO on it).

If I should decide to sell the whole ‘kit’ - D20, Ramsey STC-5W PTO, and the Ramsey winch - what would a reasonable package price be? Assuming, of course, that all parts are functioning as they should.

The shaft is slightly bent but that’s an easy fix. The T-case looks and shifts good, and the PTO shifts into and out of gear and turns easily. I haven’t messed with the winch yet.
