The ECJ5 Run is a lot of fun with a great group, if I haven't said that before. Kyle knows how to do it right, and we appreciate it.

The next week we get serious about Jamboree, and that means a quick trip to the Springs to pitch tents and save our Swamp for the upcoming festivities. I found out Sam's Commando with its new LS is not ready for the trip, so he will be right-seating with me, and Nick will bring Sam's son. So Sam offered to tow my jeep to Tahoma (for less wear and tear), and I took him up on it. We loaded the thing down, tents, chairs, beer, water, gas, etc, we will leave it all there.
We just missed the concrete pour on Cadillac, get into the Springs in 4 hours, swim and pitch tents. This was the weekend the lost crew member was being searched for, so there was a full-on search and rescue with helicopters going on. They found the guy alive 5 days and 8 miles down river later.
A few cocktails and a quick jeepers supper and we were out of there in the morning, and home by lunch. Camp is ready.

Merry Christmas everyone. Well, we moved on to the 72nd Jeepers Jamboree the next week. After leaving Georgetown with our wristbands, lunch and various swag, our first stop is always Uncle Tom's, about halfway to the Loon trailhead.
A good chance to check the jeep, let it cool down (it was hot), have a cold one, support the local watering hole. This was about 11, and we are planning to go to the Springs today.
6 well built rigs and experienced drivers, and few stops, we are at Little Sluice by about 2.
Martini Tree at top of Big Sluice at about 5, after a quick social visit with the Buck Island repair crew.
And, look at that, sun on the bridge. We are in the Springs in daylight. Now 3 full days of not moving, food served for us, lolling in the river and the bar etc.

I very much enjoyed this thread. It brought back many memories.
Been there, done that, still have the T-shirt.

I had to dig out the shirt to figure out what year I started going.

Jamboree is a good time to catch up with many friends. There is always a lot of BS flowing in the Swamp.

The chow line is always fun. If you forget your cup, they go to direct injection.

After too much eating, drinking and sun, it's time to say goodbye to Rubicon Springs for the year. Early morning, and you would never know there were 1500 people partying here 6 hours ago.
Early Sunday, like 72 trips before us, we are loaded, burrito'd, coffee'd and ready for Cadillac hill.
The heliport, after an uneventful climb. There was some serious carnage, but we were able to wiggle through and leave it to the mechanics. I saw a ring gear with very few teeth at Morris Rock. We call that a "Georgetown smile", said the rockroller.

Ok, one more trip before I start this year's project. The Hi-Lo's annual poker run through Deer Valley is a lot of fun...hint, hint for any ECJ5 guys. 3rd weekend in August. It's cheap, relatively easy, and fun. I ran out to the Carson River-front main camp Friday, and brought my M416 so we could have a little nicer kitchen and more stuff than we get on the Rubicon.
I got my trail leader assignment, (!st group out at 7 AM), then we had dinner and social hour.
No campfires, (except Tim). Just kidding, but the propane fire is legal, and popular.
Saturday, I run my group of 10 through the trail, then set a great example by breaking a main leaf, like 200 yards from the end in Hermit Valley. So we're welding again. This is the 2nd main leaf break in 3 years. Although, in the spring's defense, they have been though the Rubicon 3 times a year, plus Deer Valley, plus Barrett, for 10 seasons. So roughly 50 trips.
And, to add insult to injury, my spring splint that I designed and had with me, didn't work because I didn't have long enough bolts, because it broke at the thickest section. We booger-welded some steel on there, a C-clamp, and drove to camp.

Time for some upgrades for Woodstock.

Alright, the holidays are over, back to work, and not only at work, but on Woody. My list for the off-season is as follows:
    1. New springs. I have already changed the rears, before Rubicon Express went out of business, but need to find fronts. These are the RE 1445 reverse eye SOA spring that are so popular, I can't believe they're gone. Note- I have already bought a set from Kyle.
    2. New seats. My butt is not appreciating the military seats as much as it once did.
    3. Swing out tire carrier. Nick's rack is so easy, and I am tired of having to climb up a tire to get a beer.
    4. Frame. My frame is done. It's 72 years old, and I hope I am not as cracked when I get to 72.
    5. Fuel injection. Yes, I, Tim, am moving into the latter part of the 20th century.
    6. Brakes. I already have 4 wheel disc, but it needs to stop the 37's better. Hydroboost is what I'm thinking.
    7. Cargo room, seat room, and wheelbase. Kind of an open-ended topic.
This will be the 4th version of Woodstock. 1-1953-1999, 2-1999-2014, 3-2014-2025, 4-2025-. Version 4.0 is meant to retain the classic 3B feeling, add some capability and comfort, without just reverting to a LJ or JK.
As always, this will be done on a budget, quickly, and built for simplicity, strength, reliability, and the Rubicon. But, none of this is set in stone, and I might change the plan, but that's the gist of it. Hell, the plan is drawn loosely on a Coors box, so it starts. More details to come.

Yes, since it's going to be all apart anyway. 94" is the target. And a 5.3 LM7 is a dime a dozen right now. Boy, you saw right through that...

If I can get a 5.3 to fit, the oddfire becomes a spare for the other jeeps.

I think you will be happy with the 5.3, like you said there’s a lot of them in use in a lot of different platforms. If you’re stretching the frame you can make all the room you need. There’s all kinds of support for these motors.
I’ve been collecting parts for my next project and bought a 6.2 L87 with 420HP 460 Torque and the Hydra-Matic 10 speed transmission with less then 30k for next to nothing, friend wrecked his Denali and bought it back to part out.. Not gonna use the transmission, (not enough room).

Ha ha, yeah. No, Jay, I am sticking with the dump truck transmission. Hey, this is a compromise, and remember one option was a LJ and be done, which is what a lot of old jeepers revert to, by the way. I got talked out of that. I still have 3 other ECJ's with V6's and PTO's. If I am still going to wheel hard in the future, I want a few comforts, not much, but a few. It's still going to be a hot, stinky flatfender leaking oil and making funny noises. Besides, who isn't intrigued by a flatty with a LS and a 4 speed? I know I am.
