If you have 10" or 11" drums you should be OK after getting them fixed. If you have 9" drums you'll have to replace them with either 11" drums or disc brakes to get truly good performance from them. 11" drums are an easier and cheaper way to go as long as you don't anticipate a lot of water crossings. I've heard discs are better if you will be getting them wet as they don't fade afterward. The water thing is not a problem here in NM. I have the 11" drums and am very happy with them, it's like having power brakes now. The original 9" drums were downright SCARY.

Several people here have done work to the seat for more clearance. Do a search and you should find some things. I think it's almost certainly going to involve some fabrication and bracket changes.

Generally speaking you are almost always better off doing as much work as possible yourself. But you have to know your limitations and there comes a time to call in the pros. If I have the time, the room and the tools to do something I'll always do it myself now. If not I have someone else do it. Unfortunately, the best place in town for old Jeep repairs went out of business. Figures. I really don't know who I'll take mine to now.

IIRC your seats were sitting on a custom frame...first thing would be to give that a once over to see if there's anyway to gain some legroom.

If your seat has sliders, they can be removed for another 1" of clearance between the seat and wheel.

I don't remember what your steering wheel was...smaller wheels can help.

Ultimately the best solution is a wheel house notch.

Yes, the brakes are downright scary. No, it never (unless you come on vacation) rains in San Diego, and I dont plan on doing any 4 x 4'ing. Just cruising...but dont really feel like running anyone over in crosswalks...brakes will be nice.

Ive been considering that wheel house notch, but thought I was crazy for even thinking about it. I HAVE TO HAVE more leg room though. I may be attempting something like this myself. Maybe even a combo of a seat notch as well.

    Thanks again
