Anything I have to be careful of lifting the top (control cover) shifter cover off? Is anything going to drop into the tranny when I lift it off?

    Thanks,

Just put her in neutral first. It's a good idea to scrape/clean/vacuum any dirt and stuff from off/around the top first so that can't fall in. Nickmil.

What would happen if you were not in neutral first and what would you have to ensure once you put the cover back on?

It's really just a simpler way to make sure you get the cover back on right. I should say putting it in neutral first makes it simpler. If you didn't don't fret, still no big deal. If you didn't move anything just put it back on the way it came off, making sure the forks engage properly on the synchronizer hub and the sliding gear.

I like the little scooter you are using to roll it around on.

You do know to line up the front yoke on that driveshaft to the arrow or notch on the other end of the driveshaft so the shafts are still phased together.

I don't know anything about it. I need all the help I can get.

I was changing the shifters because they are long on the T-90/D18 (stamped 1959). The one in the pic is replacing the existing one in the 2A now (it's shot). I was going to just swap the top cover on the T-90 and the shifters on the D18 to the shorter 2A shifters before I install the one in the pic. I also have a seal & gasket set for the "new" T-90/D18.

    Thanks for all the help.
