4 angle valve job, cut the guides for a positive seal, opened up the intake passage an obscene amount, and ground down ~.130" :sneak:

I crawled under the Jeep and looked where the fuel tank goes err went. There is a diff cover where the tank used to sit. I might go back with a fuel cell since the rear sits so low to the ground now.

Head is together and painted. Ended up using caterpiller valve stem seals. Resized the connecting rods. I called and spoke to a guy about a custom cam grind and we came up with something that should work well all across the power band up to 7k. I'll ship my cam and tappets to him and in about 4 weeks I'll get them back.

I'm moving shortly so I won't be working on this for awhile. Camshaft folks called and they're about to start on my camshaft. I also picked up an 82 k10, so who knows when I'll work on this again.

Finally got done moving. Got the ol' girl set up in a shop and out of the weather finally. Small accident on the trip home though. At 65mph the hood flew up and smacked the cage. Oh well.

Ahh yes, there'll be plenty of room once it gets cleaned out and I get some shelves to store stuff on. Truth be told I actually plan to line the walls of the shop with machine shop equipment like a boring bar, hone, seat and guide machine, mill, lathe, etc. but I have to get the 3b going again first. Once I figure out the steering gear situation things should fall into place without much fuss. I want to have it driveable by Nov. 11 for a Hot Springs trail ride but that's probably not going to happen at this rate.

I’d be curious what grind you end up with for the F134. I have two Crane cams (probably the same grinds) that came from swamp buggy racers. I may have the specs on them. One is from an engine that had the wrist pin pull out of the piston at 6800rpm.
Decking the block so the pistons sit well proud of the deck, them milling the crowns to match the combustion chamber is how the Florida boys make a high compression/high revving F-head.
These guys blank off the hole on the head for the carburetor, and make a big oval hole in the side of the head for a fabricated intake manifold, usually for a 4bbl.

The camshaft and tappets are ready finally. Decided to actually try and make some kind of progress so I got the pto installed after chopping up the transmission cross member and ran the associated prop shaft; it cleared the header and there looks to be plenty of room up front for the steering gear. Hot dog! Big relief as I didn't want to chop up the header for a third time. I looked into a gear that would sit outside the frame rail and I remembered there was a Toyota IFS unit in the backyard. If the pitman arm was straight it would've worked fine but it dips down too much and there is little room for the drag link between the frame and springs as is. I'll probably end up using the WJ gear.

Camshaft arrived this evening so I started assembly. Everything has been within spec so far. Honestly, valve to head clearance is toight but doable. I probably wouldn't take more than 1/8" off a head if I did this again. With a stock camshaft, there'd be no issue though.

The pistons are almost flush with the deck. I still have to measure where they sit.

Finally got 220v ran to my side of the shop so I can start rolling along with the project again.

Trying to finish buttoning up my fhead.

If you were to take ~.160-.170" off you'd probably have to shorten the push rods some.

    Bore- 3.155
The pistons sit .010" in the hole.
The head had .137" removed from it.
If it's not at least 9:1 CR it's darn close.

    Checking actual valve lift.

    Yep, it's toight in there.

This cam card is race secrets, shhh... (inside joke of sorts)

Pretty much altogether. I'll try to get it in the 3b tomorrow if I have time. I removed the valve cover breather and welded a quarter over the hole.
Ordered brake calipers, hoses, and brake pads.

It's been a long day but I make time....

Cleaned off the flywheel. Just a watermark from sitting; the 9 1/4" clutch would've been a nice addition but I don't have a flywheel for it.

I guess the engine was ready to be home since it just about slid right in. :)
I figured I'd give @ITLKSEZ 2g adapter a try. The air filter actually clears the hood after I folded over the hood seam. It won't after I throw in the engine mounts though... The throttle cable needs to be readdressed and I'll start planning on some sort of hood scoop. I wish I could've found a smaller diameter air filter. That one is around 5-6" iirc.

A couple wacks and the hood popped back into shape. The hood completely split at the seam though. I can't believe it hasn't fallen apart.

Long way to go. Maybe by 2023, it will drive again.

I've been working on the steering/pto package... I ditched the WJ gear and went back with my old Saginaw 800 box. Ordered another pitman arm with no drop so maybe it will do what I need it to.

Managed to carve out a steering gear mount out of the last piece of 3/8" I had. I hope the pitting doesn't affect the integrity too much.

I had a GM truck (LT1) in my way that I suspected of failed dod/afm lifter but it was something much more simple. Ended up cobbling together some junk to get the job done.

Placed a fairly large order that should get this thing running besides raw materials.

I'll be keeping the Toyota drive flanges on the axles and using a hybrid 1310/Toy U-Joint. I'm fairly excited to really get back to work on this. I've been piddling but no real progress has been made.

    Shooting for Spring '23.
