I was just wondering how high the lube level should be in a t-90/d-18 setup? I put brand new seals in mine and when i filled it with fluid half the lube leaked out around the front yoke seal of the t-case. The seals are brand new so i was just wondering/hoping if maybe i overfilled it. Thanks in advance.

It should be filled to the bottom of the fill plug hole.

Ok, but why is all my fluid running out on the floor after i fill it??? I can fill it to that level, but by the next morning i have a puddle on the floor. Is it possible that the seals just need to be worn in? ( I know im reaching for ideas )

Did you put the seal in backwards?

I hat to say this but you're grasping. Something is wrong with the seal. You should actually be able to fill these things up till the oil comes out of the breather on the transfercase with no leaks. Your front seal is either in backwards or it was sheared when it was put in.

Everything looks okay. I pulled the yoke out and the seal looks brand new just like when i installed it the first time. I guess ill just have to buy another new seal and try it again. Thanks for the help guys.

Make sure when you install the next new one you put some grease or petroleum Jelly on the garter spring on the back side of the seal. That will help keep it from popping out of the seal. That may be what happened here. The garter spring holds tension between the seal lip and the yoke seal surface so it doesn't leak. Also make sure you lube the seal lip before puttin in the yoke. Other wise the seal can be damaged when installing the yoke. Also, put some sealer on the splines inside the yoke where it slides on the output shaft. It's common for the gear oil to follow the splines out and cause a leak there as well. Let us know how it comes out. Nickmil.

If you havn't heard already you should use a double lipped seal, they work a lot better than the stock item. The piece of choice seems to be a National Federal Mogul #473229.

Also, is the part of the yoke that slips into the seal nice & smooth? If not shes gonna leak regardless-

A good thing to do, is check how the seal go's over the yoke.I have been handed the wrong seal many times and I find if pays to double check it.
