Finished up the manifold. No cracks so far...
I pre heated to ~450F with a rose bud. Tig welded with 1/16" SS filler rod. Post heated. wrapped up if I ever need to do anything like sharpening the tungsten. It welded up pretty good, meaning no real issues with cracking, or junk coming up through the puddle. Have some exhaust bends ordered up to finish it up.

Pressure regulator is working really well, also took the jeep for a spin yesterday. a bit cold, but the thing runs/drives so much better


the return line uses field -6 fittings. the hose is rubber inside gasoline rated, steel on the outside, and then a cloth sheath on the outside of that.

I had some issues with the rear drum brakes. they were dragging way to much. the passenger side was way out of adjustment. I couldnt adjust them enough to get an even drag. they were loose on the bottom but would grab the top causing the drum to stick. I changed out the shoes after talking with Daryl a little bit. I dont know where the difference is/was but the new shoes adjusted better...

with the help of my newest purchase I think its finally complete...


I had some hide that a friend had given me a long time ago. finished up the shifter boots.

 

I stumbled across my old OBA system that used to be on the TJ back in its 4cyl days. first I had to get a proper belt. due to the PS delete it wasnt just a simple part look up. i had to actually measure and try to find a belt by length.
From there it was just a few parts from the nets and local hardware store. I am not running an air tank, i only use it air up tires. waiting on the air filter for it.
Its also wired into the PDB so its on a fuse. starting to really like the EATON PDB, its water tight and easy to add accessors to it.


I use a test ball air line. it screws onto the Shrader valve and you just turn the ball valve, when you close the ball valve you can see what the pressure in the tire is as well. this set up works really good on the 35s on the TJ.

EDIT:
the only unfortune thing is that the clutch is out on the compressor, something i should of tested before i started. its either going to be a junk yard part or just buy a new clutch online.

 

Decided to take the Jeep to the Cle Elum area Eastern WA for a shake down run. Havnt really had it out much been pretty busy. the thing did really well, not a fan of the tires, mostly because of the ride. Even at less then 10psi they are rock hard.

it was a really easy trail, i had it in 2low most of the time just to keep the speed down over the bumps. So still havnt tried out the 4x4.
So far everything is working as it should.

i was checking the filter number so i can order a spare and found this. this is no longer an oil bath air cleaner but it has decided to revert to its old ways. Looks like at least a partial tear down is coming up. It was hard to tell but there might also be some water in the oil pan.

 

at least the tare down takes all of 3 hours...

nothing obvious, will have to find a machine shop that can take a look at the head.
there are two head bolts that take sealant as they are in the water jacket area, but it doesnt look like it leaked coolant and those are on the out side of the valve cover so couldnt be them.

 

Looks like there is more corrosion in #3 and #4 rust and pitting. 2 and 3 definitely got hot.

 

I should add. This engine doesn't have more then 100 miles on it. It was rebuilt before I installed it. I did over heat it pretty bad not long ago.
I was running a 7lb cap due to the original radiator not being rated for much. Engine is supposed to be closer to 15lba. I was keeping an eye on things but one day I screwed up.

 

I'ld get an O2 sensor on it or data log the obd2.
it had an air pocket in the head, are you running an overflow tank?

 

it has both O2 sensors.
it does have an overflow, its not very big though maybe a quart

 

Boo! I love chocolate milkshakes, but not that kind.

 

head came back from the machine shop, its cracked. he thinks its been cracked for a long time hard to say though.
Anyway, need to order a new one. should be back and running in no time.

 

Good to have a concrete source of the problem.
