Why is that weird? Just wondering what you expect. I measured my '75 and it's 29" outside. It's a C-channel frame. Only the front part is boxed. Flexible.

That number is on the body? I have never seen markings like that. Could be an assigned chassis number for a Jeep put together from parts? Normally there is a VIN tag on the firewall that identifies the vehicle.

Lots of things change for the '72 model year, including the engines and drive train. The hood, fenders and chassis were lengthened to accommodate the AMC inline 6s. The body did not change much, only stuff like lettering and fuel filler. You should be able to use either body if you want, but you need to use the '72 or newer front clip.

Well the reason it is weird is because on the body the holes don’t match up for mounting and just seemed a little small..... I thought c channel frames was for earlier model Cj like 71 and back not mid 70s????????????????

The main change came with the 1976 model year. When AMC bought Jeep in 1970, they made a list of stuff they wanted to change immediately. Specifically, they wanted to switch to their engines instead of the ancient 4-cylinder and V6 Jeep bought from GM. The soonest this could happen was 1972, and these Jeeps are basically the Kaiser Jeep with an updated drive train. They needed to make the engine compartment longer to accommodate their excellent inline 6 engines. In those days, engineering these product changes took time, and from 1972 through 1975 Jeep offered this warmed-over model. The all-AMC Jeep was introduced in 1976.

Show us where the body does not line up with the frame.

Start lining the tub up with the rear of the body directly above/even with the rear crossmember. Mounting holes should be close enough to start fitting bolts.

I can't quite make out the lettering on the side of the cowl in your photo. Is the embossed lettering "JEEP" or "Jeep"? The all capital lettering was used up through 1971. The intermediate AMC Jeeps only have a Capital "J". The first few years ('72-'74?) had the embossing high where yours is. The later intermediates lowered the embossing about 6". There are some differences between early and intermediate tubs, but they can be interchanged. The front sheetmetal changes for '72 can not interchange with the early style due to length. The grills can be made to interchange, though radiator mounts and shrouds might not fit.
The CJ5 chassis are the same width from '55 through '75. In '76-up, the chassis flares wider in the rear portion.

The does look like an older body but the floorboards have been replaced and they didn't replace most of the hat channels the body uses to mount to the frame. The floor should look like this picture from Dne's build thread Yep, Bought A '68 Cj5(project):

Hat channels can be purchased from Classic Enterprises (see "Floor Body Supports" on this page): 1972 - 1975 Jeep CJ5

Since you aren't going for originality, lots of folks use 1x2 rectangular tubing to fab their own.

Yep. Looks like a lot of stuff was omitted when they tried to rebuild the floor.

I’ve got another question. If I’m using a 74 frame with a mid 60s body can I install the master cylinder for the brakes on the firewall? Is that possible? Instead of the body mount type.

Yes you can. You'll have to attach a 1/8th plate and drill it to mimic the intermediate firewall. I made a plate for this years ago to help a buddy do this. Then I made another and used it to transfer holes to my fiberglass tub and then bolted that piece on it to support it. Lemme find a pic.. I used a original firewall piece from a 72 I think intermediate cj5 to make the plate.
