Hey guys- I paid $300 for it. When I got it home, I found out it was a 8074 and not the 8274. I'm guessing they are about the same in rating and performance? :?

Check out the pics. Done good or did I get screwed?

Looks like you definately got a good deal. I remember reading somewhere that those 2 winches are fairly similar, but I don't know for sure.

I am not positive but I think the main difference is the 8274 is power in and power out and the 8074 is just power in. At any rate, the newest version of that winch is over $1200 so I would say you got a good deal! Nice work!

How on earth would you loosen a tight cable with a winch that was power in only? I believe the 8074 doesn't have a free spool position.

i love my 8274, very fast and reliable. i found a guy that used to work for warn that can sell you parts for that there winch if you need it. bewarned the guy is a bit pricey but he saved my a$$ once before for the clutch lever on my 8274. warn told me that i would have beter luck finding a used winch thatn that part. i got ahold of this guy and he was great. if you need his number at any time please let me know
