Thanks to all and I will enjoy and keep you posted. I have my son helping and that makes it even more enjoyable. I have learned a lot from this forum and appreciate all the help. . One more question, how do you tell if the horn I have is a 6 or 12 volt?

    Interesting. :coffee:

I wonder about the toolbox. Were there ever any toolboxes that were hinged at the front? All I recall have hinges at the back.

I think it's stamped on there somewhere. If not don't worry too much. I've been told a 6 volt horn will handle 12 volts for short beeps, just don't hold down on it.

I don't see any hinges on the front of that one, I think it only appears that it's open from the front. Marty can let us know for sure.

    Rick,
Thank you for the welcome. I learn more and more each day an I do enjoy working my Jeep. At this point I will have the 50’s covered (1957 frame and title) the 60’s covered (1960 engine and transmission from a downer Jeep) and the 70’ covered on the Tub with (AMC intermediate ('72-'75). My project is starting to remind me of a Johnny Cash song “one pice at a time”. I just thought of what to name my Jeep. LOL Everybody on this site have been a great help with all of my questions.
    Thanks again Marty

You may find this site detailing the restoration of a similar Sparton horn (from a Mopar vehicle, painted purple as Donny noted above) helpful:

Welcome Marty. This is probably the best site on the net for info on old Jeep's. I belong to a few and moderate for one and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Never any BS like others. Sorry to say I didn't see this post until now and all of my thoughts have already been said about your tub, so I have nothing but a welcome for yah. Welcome.

So as I said over the weekend I followed the above link that was shared. I blasted, primed and painted the horn. This was in between sanding the filler (I forgot how much work blocking was. LOL). After assembly I had he make a few adjustments but it now work good. I was supposed how loud the horn is. Thanks again for all the help.
