    Hello to all,
I waited to ask a couple of questions:
    1) I have the original horn from my CJ5 year? it was disassembled when I when I got it an very rusty on the inside. I cleaned all the internal and external parts and put it back together. It did not work, so I backed off the bolts holding it together and I got what I would call a buzzing (like a busy signal on your phone). Looking at the inside diaphragm it looks like there may have been spacers between the cover and diaphragm? Here are some pictures:

    2) looks like the tub I have has been used for something different than a CJ5? Someone added marker lights on the back and extra lights. Can someone tell me when and if a 57 CJ5 should have the marker lights on the rear of the tub? It would be a lot easier of a fix to add the lights but if not I will start the body work to fix the holes. LOL her is a picture.

Can't say specifically about the horn, but it's a buzzer. Here's a YouTube that shows how it works.

Maybe you can figure out what's supposed to be there.

I'd guess the usual failure is the coil going open (no field remaining) or shorting some of the windings (weak field remaining). I suspect it would take something heroic to fix either of those problems.

From 1970-ish on, the CJ body had those holes. The big round hole on the back is for the fuel filler, to a rear mounted gas tank. The others are for backup lights and side markers, as you deduced. None are present on a '57 - add them if you want. It would be helpful to add year and equipment information to your signature file and profile.

That is similar to the sound it makes when the cover is loose. So not really a horn more of a buzzer. LOL I will have to clean off the metal diaphragm and see if that helps. Thanks for the reply

Do you have more pictures of your tub? Are you trying to identify if it's really a '57?

My thoughts too on both questions. His profile pic seems to show a (faux) battery box lid though.

I purchased the tub and it was identified as a 56 CJ5 but I have my doubts? Here are more pictures. The picture in my profile is the start of this project. It is titled as a 57 CJ5. I'm new To this game so I may be mistaken on any and all. LOL. It looks like the top cowl may have been replaces as I look at it closer.

My best guess - it's a '75 tub. The Jeep lettering style is 1974 or newer. The hole in the firewall look right for the bulkhead connector first used in 1975. In 1976 everything changes, and the tub is obviously different.

A few things I see.....definitely early frame, has battery tray on front of frame.
Jeep stampings are newer than '71, looks like they were added to the body.
I.D. plate should be fastened with screws, no big deal that someone riveted them.

The fuel tank filler on the side indicates something was done to the body, whatever that was.

Tim, did '75 still have the tool box?

    Yes, last year.

Last I looked, you can still buy the inset for the under-seat tank fill. That's what I did with my '73 back in the day, to have both tanks. Not difficult to cut a hole and add it.

Probably a better chance someone did that versus the Jeep lettering change.

My guess is this is an aftermarket replacement tub for an AMC intermediate ('72-'75). The first clue is the rippled stamping on the upper edge of the right rear corner. Factory AMC tubs had cleaner stampings. A real intermediate usually has a recess for the left rear marker light. The embossed Jeep name in consistent with a '75 from the font and location. Do you have a vent grate on the top of the cowl just ahead of the windshield? Also, any tub newer than '70 doesn't have the fuel fill for an under-seat tank, unless added like Tim mentioned. Do you also have a fuel tank under the rear bed? On the rear panel, the lowest sets of holes are for tailights ('55-75 are the same location). The larger right hole is for a fuel fill on '71-'75 Jeeps, and the upper sets of holes are for clear backup lights on the intermediates.
Your toolbox under the passenger seat appears to hinge backwards, at least for an early CJ.
Your tub is not from a '56 or '57, though is is functionally the same and should serve its intended purpose if you are not particular about originality.

Thanks for the info, I fit the tub on the frame and it worked but I’m not sure if I should go any further? It has a bolt in dash so I’m confused. Looks like someone went to a lot of trouble. Any help would be appreciated?

Bolt in dash is fine. Some were welded in but there were also a lot that bolted in.

    Donny,
Thank you for that information, first of all there is no vent gate on the top of the cowl. There is no fuel tank under the rear bed that I can see. I.m making something for fun so I think I will continue with the build an enjoy.

I noticed those ripplings on the corner but didn't really think about it being an aftermarket tub. It kind of adds up now, since it apparently had the faux battery cover also, and maybe (probably) came with the gas filler indentation also.
