Early tubs, 55-71, have through-the-floor pedals, with the heater cut out on the drivers side. Intermediate tubs, 72-75, have swinging pedals and the heater on the passenger side.

Late early tubs, mid 70 and 71, have the fuel fill in the back like the intermediates.

There are some other differences that escape me at the moment... :D

When the V-6 was introduced in '66 they moved the battery mount tray from the frame to the body tub.

Circa '64,when they dropped the cutout for the 24 volt battery pack in the cowl on the right hand side. In civilian models this was welded shut with a cover.

'72 up also had a fresh air intake in the cowl for the heater, extra body mounts, different speedo head, different heater controls due to change in the heater, and had indicator lights on dash for things like headlights, etc. Nickmil.

Plus the obvious changes in lettering on the side below the cowl. The location of the lettering changed in '74. And some intermediate tubs have a solid back panel and rear mounted spare.

    Re: eary/intermediate body tub difference

I'm dragging this post up from the past...

Is there any difference in the actual tub size along the sides? The extra length on the intermediate's is from the fenders and hoods being longer? or is the tub actually longer too?

I've got a line on a 75 with an early tub that I'm going to put on it. I want to put my early hardtop from my old 62 on it. Got an old windshield for it too.

Just trying to see if it will be easy to cobble together a plow jeep or if its too much work to get things to line up.

Tub is dimensionally the same. Intermediate has swinging pedals, vent in the cowl, etc. but they can be made to work. The length was added in the fenders, hood, and frame.

Didn't the frame widen out in the intermediates, changing the body mounting points? Or were they still the same front to rear like the early ones.

Nope. Not till '76. Same frame width (and parallel) through 1975.

A friend bolted an int. tub onto his early frame. No hassles at all since he was going to swinging pedals anyway. Pedals being the exception, it a bolt on swap....oh, and the fuel tank as mentioned.
