The factory rearview mirror vibrates when driving making it hard to see clearly. In fact people's driving lights vibrate into round rings. Any suggestions? I was thinking about trying a rubber washer between the base where the bolts go thru and the windshield frame to see if that would dampen it some. Or is this just the way they are?

How firm/tight is your windshield frame?
When I replaced the windshield to hood rubber gasket it really makes a tight seal when I lock the clasps in place. Rear view mirror doesn’t vibrate.

I too replaced the seal and I think it's pretty tight but I'll check that next.

Does the mirror itself hold position when adjusted? Or is there slight play/ movement.

What does your factory inside mirror look like? It's not like these plastic Rugged Ridge ones all over the interwebz is it?

Mine did that after I replaced the 64 mirror with a larger 66, I took it off and tightened the screw that holds it to the bracket, problem solved. Good Luck

It the original smaller size, not the longer 60's era style. However, it does not have that extra bracket that attaches at the middle of the main bracket that I've seen pics of. I'll pull it and try tightening the rear bolt just to make sure.

Is that actually the right location for that mirror and year?

When you said 'early' style, I pictured the type in my '56, that mounts below the w/s frame. Might have a larger/flatter base that way, less wobble.

Thanks for the pics. I have a '68 and the aftermarket Bubba'ed mirror and scrap metal bracket the PO put on it interferes with the windshield tie down strap.... and I do wanna be able to fold my windshield down, all proper-like.

Wait, does yours mickeykelley, interfere with the tie down strap?

Mine did not come with a mirror thus I gave temporarily installed it in the two holes originally ment for the factory soft top rods. It's on my list to drill the holes to mount, but I gave misplaced the copy of the original factory instructions that gave the exact measurements.

I've not used the straps yet as the top is a real pain to get in the channel. At least it gas been for me the 3 times I've done it.

Correct - the factory mounting location is lower. :)

Late last night I couldn't stop trying to find the mounting instructions and ran into the old thread. I knew that I had seen the instructions somewhere. This time I took a pic.

The original thread was about what mirror and eventually I did find one in not so good of condition (metal rusted full of holes on the bottom meaning it sat out in the rain) and it looks much better than that plastic thing. But I'm still looking for one in better condition.

The incorrect position of your mirror in post #11 will contribute to the vibration of your mirror. It should be postioned on the flat area of the sheetmetal just left of the re-inforcing plate, and right of the diagonal footman loop (if it is present). The mirror you have is correct up through around the '65 model year. The one pictured in post #6 is correct for around '66-up.
