Hood Safety Catch Cj5

I have to replace a grille. While removing the old one, I noticed that the hood safety catch is grabbing onto the hood through a square hole. This is a fiberglass hood. It appears that there is a reinforcing piece of sheet metal riveted adjacent to the hole which is what the latch is holding onto. It looks like an OEM fabrication but just want to be sure there isn't supposed to be a bar for the latch to hold onto that has been removed by previous owners and this was somebody's fix. Is this correct? Just making sure. Thanks.

 

That's the way the factory hood and latch work. A square hole in the hood the hook catches on. I don't really know about fiberglass hoods but I would guess they would be similar.

 

the glass hood that was on the wifes has no safety catch it would have needed a hoop to work. the boy left the latches un hooked, i put a steel hood on.
