Hey guys, I currently have a rochester 2 barrel. It needs to be replaced. What would be the best carb for my trail rig. 231 buick V6 backed to an sm420 trans. I was thinking of a holley but dont know which model to get. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with the 2G/2GC Rochester, it's a fine little carb.

If you were going to switch, and not replace the intake manifold, I *think* it's the only carb that fits the bolt pattern. To switch to a Motorcraft 2100 or Holley 2300, (and maybe a weber), you'd need an adapter plate.

Otherwise, you're going to need an intake manifold if you want to switch to a 4bbl.

Which Rochester do you have? The 2G is a good unit as is the DualJet. If you have a computer controlled DualJet non computer units were used in '79, '80, and early '81 on some vehicles.
I have the DualJet on my 1980 231 and it works very well off road.

Just tonight I put on a 2g, took off my Weiand intake and 470 TA. Put on a factory 2 bbl intake and a little 2bbl Rochester. While up high it seems to have lost a little bit, down low it seems stronger and much smoother and more driveable. I'd gotten the 470 to work really well, but it was just not as driveable as the Rochester. I'd go and pick up a reman 2g and call it good.

Why not just replace the bad top? Parts are available.
