    I suppose there is something to be said for metric and having a single system but function wise, it is pretty much just SAE and not any better.

    Found these in a box of take offs from the PO. A couple "Spicer joint" tags and a random metal piece made of what feels like aluminum. Any ideas what they'd be for?

    The curved thing is for drum parking brakes, it guides the adjsuter cable.

    The Spicer tags go on the front axle to indicate the type of shaft's/joints inside which affects where you set the steering stops- Spicer axles can make a tighter turn radius than the Bendix or Rzeppa's.

    OOooOoooOhhhhh. Ok that makes sense. I haven't been into the steering knuckles yet but id assume, based on the turning radius, it most likely doesn't have Spicers on there . 1964 cj5 4 cyl. My 2015 Colorado has a better radius and its like 4 feet longer end to end haha.

    I put on Spider Trac 1-1/4" wheel spacers. Keeps the tires off the springs and turns like a sports car.

    You still have to be careful of the shaft joints- stock sized tires don't rub even with the spicers when the stops are set correctly.

    If they aren't set correctly you'll be replacing your shafts pretty soon :(

    I have 1" adapters to clear my brakes. I Highly recommend knuckle studs or reversed button head bolts with wheel adapters (wheel adapter has two bolt patterns male and female. Wheel spacers are just shims with one pattern and long wheel studs. illegal in some places.)

    Here is a pic of where the spicer joint tag goes:

    sounds like you have the typical D25/27 closed knuckle axle...and based on 1964 year, it would be spicer joints - they just don't have great turning radius no matter what joints are in there. Part of the 'uniqueness' of old closed knuckle jeeps

    Well that explains it! My knuckles looks just like yours…. Only way greasier.
    One of my many winter projects is to tear em open and give the axles, knuckles, and hubs a hood servicing.

    essentially all knuckles no matter what the axle joint is look the same....those are only clean as I took the pic right after rebuilding them with knuckle studs and adding a brake upgrade...I don't think the knuckle was even filled with lubricant yet. I took the picture cause I had never seen the tag before I scraped all the grease off and found them.
