Of course it makes me wonder what the other numbers represent

 

In the case of Andrew's photo, the 44 represents number of ring gear teeth and the 9 represents the number of pinon teeth.
44 / 9 = 4.89

 

It should also have the BOG number(bill of goods), This is crosses to a list of the original configuration, ie gear ratio/limited slip and sometimes application when built). Which sometimes is stamped into the housing. Ron

........Me thinks that being the Reverse Engineering , halfast kinda guy that I am....one may find it's original location by lining up the bolt holes to both covers & then see which one it came from ?

 

That looks like the exhaust stud from the driver side that holds the oil dipstick bracket.

 

Right. Got the paperwork but not the merchandise.

 

It could be the bolt to secure the fuel pump heat shield.
