To the best of my recollection and from what I've researched on the best location for o2 sensors, you only need it in one bank and you are supposed to get close to the exhaust manifold- not downstream. With headers, put it in the collector with a heated sensor. Also, angle the sensor facing level (or downward if at all possible) to keep it from loading up with crud.

The after cat O2 sensor if deleted will turn on the check engine light. That would need addressed with a reprogram of the PCM. It isn't needed as a runnability function though as it is basically a cat efficiency sensor.

I've got to brag a little and show off my 4.3. It's a throttle body injected motor so it was pretty simple to wire up.

I've also have a S-10 steering box in my CJ-7' it was a major improvement over the factory box. image.jpeg

Waiting for payday so I can wait for parts. Didn't do a lot this weekend, but I fixed a couple welds I didn't like and got all my frame repair primed and painted. I didn't realize how much of the frame I had repaired/replaced until I saw it all primed up....[IMG]

Ordering the pilot bushing and clutch pack tomorrow. Will be able to permanently install the engine in the frame after that...A HUGE milestone I am looking forward to....

Clutch showed up today, but too late to do anything with it. It will have to wait until Sunday. This project just got a little bigger than originally planned (as my projects always do...) Found a Dana 30 on Craigslist. Complete with tie rods, drag link and disc brakes. Although not the priority of the current build, it will be getting an overhaul complete with a selectable locker. I have a couple months to decide if I am going to go with air or electric...

That frame came a long way from what you started with. Nice work.

It's from a '79 CJ-5. I ended up paying $200 for it. Measured the spring perches and they are only 1.75" wide - same as my Dana 25. The extra couple inches in width will help my tire fitment issues (I plan on upgrading from 31x10.50 to 33x12.50 at the end of this build.

Thanks. I'm happy with it. I don't weld for a living, but it's acceptable.

Looks great so far. Putting a 4.3 into my 67 CJ5 is by far the best thing I've done to my Jeep. I have a 98 4.3 and there is nothing like going out to the garage and having it fire up with the first turn of the key. Looks like there were some questions about the O2 sensors. I did exactly what was suggested and kept the 2 fwd sensors and ditched the after cat sensor.

Also, I sent my harness to Novak and they removed all the unnecessary wires and cut/extended the harness. Also had them flash my computer. They made it so easy, I would really recommend it. Like the painless harness, it's a bit pricey but it was so worth it. They give you a check list and you tell them what you want to cut out (like the rear O2 sensor) so the check engine light doesn't come on after you remove that sensor.

Question for you guys with 4.3's? Are you running the auto tranny or did you setup a manual? I have a custom Ford T-18 so I wanted to keep that went I did the 4.3 swap. Did you guys make any covers for the open area around the starter? I live in Austin and my Jeep is my second vehicle so I generally don't drive it in wet weather. Just curious if you covered that area up to keep stuff out of the bellhousing.

I'm bolting mine to an SM420. Hope to have it in today or tomorrow. Once it's in, I plan on trying to bolt the old bell housing cover in place. If it doesn't work, I'll fab up something and will surely post it here. This is my hunting rig and sees all sorts of weather and terrain

That's what I figured! I made one but it was interfering with my starter... I'll have to make a second pass at it to get it to fit!

I used the S-10 bell housing cover and trimmed and redrilled it to fit my SM465 bell. Starter hole lined up just fine.

What year is your motor? Mine is a 98 and has the full aluminum oil pan that integrates to the bell housing (well not with my bellhousing but the factory auto). I don't think the 98 ever came with a manual option. I'd love to find one if it did!

Had a set back today. got everything lined up, fought with aligning the clutch friction disc with the input shaft splines for a bit, but eventually got it. Everything slid together. All the bolts started easy. The bottom block to bell housing bolt had a 1/8" gap. I put a socket on it and heard a nice "pop". Somedays you just cant win......
