The one I had came with the door pocket which covered all of the way across....definitely a handy feature. The door latch was the normal that looped around the upright rod. I got it from the local dealer and can only assume it was Kayline, I definitely don't remember the name.

Thinking back I remember how people would try to slam the door to shut it......I always thought it was obvious it wouldn't work that way. Plus with the window unzipped and hanging (if it wasn't rolled up) it was always getting pinched between the body and door.

Another thing that tells me that probably isn't a Kayline is that I always remember the side curtain always rolled to the top rather to the rear. Hey it's only been like how many years ago years ago? Back in those days, Kayline was the only way to go around here.

I have to agree that the way the side windows roll is very different as well.
    It is a mystery top.
Somebody here will figure it out.

Y'all are picking out good points to make a sure identication. I've run about every internet search I can think of on the top with a special focus on the door handle/latch set-up. It may not be on the world-wide-web! The person to correctly identify it wins a ...a...a "like".

This top looks very similar to the top my father brothers and I put on our Jeep the first time we built it. We purchased it from 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, probably 1983-4. It was a Bestop Craftsman I believe. Ours had windows in the lower doors and simple rotating latches similar to what I remember the previous Whitco top having. I think the door frames where the same and I think I still have the pouches that hang from the doors. I think Bestop still sells this top for the cj6 and have thought about possibly shortening one to fit my cj5 - someday.

Wow ...........sorry I was away and did not engage in this interesting conversation. But I do appreciate all of the input from everyone..................Glenn.........I have no Idea where that came from. I bought allot of parts from the Archer Bros. allot from Cochran & Celli who was a factory Jeep , Chevy and Buick dealer in Oakland , Ca. and also Jagger Jeeps in Napa California...........had to be early 70's I would guess.................
Common Jim..........I know you have a book or brochure under your bed or in the closet. I'm counting on all you folks....................

Tarry, don't worry, it entertained us. Look around for some hidden tags and such.

Tarry, your past is being uncovered--
"The 1965 CJ-5 is a great story. My friend that ran the parts counter at the factory Jeep dealer Cochran & Celli in Oakland, Ca. which by the way was also a Chevrolet dealer told me about this like new Jeep that had been ordered by two Japanese brothers that farmed rice that never pick it up......As the story goes It sat on the lot for several months until the sales guys started to use it as a demo .....until I bought it in 1967 with only about 800 miles on it with the full warranty. It had a 4 cylinder , 3 speed with 4.27 gears w/ Powr-lok in the rear 60/40 Bench seats and was painted by far in my eyes the prettiest blue ever on a Jeep called Nordic Blue Poly code # 223 it was really an early metallic Blue and quite stunning in the sunlight..............At the dealer they installed a radio, aftermarket heater ,Warn Overdrive , chrome wheels with over sized tires and a white soft top.......................now jumping from that old CJ-3a to this new CJ-5 was like I died and went to heaven.........Really!"

Are the half doors a part of the soft-top package?

The top that is now in question was the second top that was on that Jeep...................I only know or remember that ( and if you grew up in the 60's remembering shix like this was not high on the list! ) based on the second set of holes for snaps that were in the body.

Package?...........No they did not come with the soft top...........the White half doors and a White Bikini top came later , I never thought to even look at them yesterday when I went over there to shoot a few pictures of the doors.

Common Jim.................I'm still waiting.......where's the Brochure on the soft top?.............I can't be the only guy in the Jeep World that had a custom soft top with trick door handles!

Now that's a name from the past... I bought my replacement Jeep tub, hood, and fenders from them and a new Whitco or Kline top in 1970. I think the guys name was George who ran the place. It was in LA.
