Will the PS pump on this engine fit a 225 with the stock front dump manifold?
    While I'm at it, how much work to swap out a 225 v6 for a 300 v8?
(No I'm not going to do it, but it's fun to think about!)

The 300 is the predecessor to the Buick 340/350. It was introduced to replace the expensive-to-produce all-aluminum 215. It has aluminum heads and an iron block - Buick was trying to keep some of the weight advantage of the 215, so it's pretty light for a V8. Should drop in just like a 340 or 350 - same bell, same mounts, one cylinder longer in front than the 225.

I would expect the pulleys and brackets to work, but I don't know about how it fits with the front-dump manifold. Get the whole engine and that way the PS is sure to fit!

The Buick V8s are interesting- the 340/350, for example was undersquare, pretty rare for a modern V8.

Imadoughball put a 300 V-8 with aluminum heads in his CJ-6 project. It works well. His is/was the high compression version.

Damn, I'd love to find one of those near me.... I'd even "settle" for a 215 or 340.....

Back in the '70s I saw a 2A with a 401 Buick motor in it. They called it the Wildcat 445 in those days and it had PS.
I'm still trying to get the 472 Caddy motor out of my back yard that my neighbor put there.

Actually it was a fun car to drive and as the old saying goes, it could pass anything except a gas station. Back in the '70s it was the motor to transplant into GM trucks in place of a 350. Hook it up to a Buick auto transmission and adapt it to the transfer case. It is only about 50 lbs heavier than a 350 with a bunch more low end torque. Later they punched them out to be 502s and put them into the Caddys and many boats, speaking of boats... I think that GM has a crate motor that is something like a 540 ci. I don't know if it is based off of the 472 or a 454. Happy motoring, If go out today, it will be in the mighty 2.3 L Volvo.
