Looks great! What alloy did you use for sticking it all together?

That was my original plan but I jut didn't have the time so I ended up buying a chinese one.

With some cold rolled flat stock & a bit of imagination I think you could build some pretty capable machines.

I decided to take another stab at the rear suspension. I love how it performs 90% of the time, but with such limited uptravel, a lot of the higher speed hits can really be jarring. I’ve been running a thick, flat overload spring from a Dodge Dakota. I used to haul a lot more trailer weight than I do now, so it’s not as important to have a high spring rate anymore.

At ride hight, springs were flat, if not arched a hair negatively, and there was only about 1/4” before contact was made with the primary bumpstop.
Pic from after I’d already begun tearing it down:

I had an old set of YJ springs in storage that had a cheap lift kit that consisted of a stiff helper spring. I swapped in all of the leaves except the main leaf which I left in place. It lifted the rear about 1 1/4”, but it’s completely empty. It should settle a little with gear and occupants.

The ride is infinitely better. My spine thanks me.
(Yes, I know the clamp is backwards, but there was no clearance for it beside the gas tank.)

Ryan, how does that anti wrap bar do off road? I still need to come up with something for the 3B and have VERY limited real estate available for the typical axle tube mount style.

I have zero complaints. I haven’t noticed any wrap since I put it on, nor have I noticed any funky characteristics off road. I forget it’s there, which I guess is exactly what we’d want.

Granted, I’m only working with around 100+ hp, so it’s probably not fair to say it’ll undoubtedly work as well with your monster, but SOA vs SUA might even the leverage a little.

I’m finally finishing the swing out tire carrier that I started nearly 2 1/2 years ago. The plan has always been the saw mount on one side, and a rotopax mount on the other. I’ve been trying to justify buying a rotopax mount and fuel container for 2 years, and I just can’t do it. The cost is just not worth it to me for 3 gallons of gas. I know I can stack them, but that’s just more ridiculous cost.

I picked up a USA-made 5 gallon Jerry can at harbor freight for $50. I made a mount for it today.

First things first, I decided it would be most practical to mount it where the saw mount is, so the can won’t limit the swing of the carrier by hitting the cage. Off comes the saw mount.

Next up are the CAD templates.

I cut everything out of 14g. Some of the bends had to get creative.

    All tacked together…

Fast forward a few hours, it’s all mounted and finish welded.

I still have to drill drain holes before I can paint it. I’ll shorten a ratchet strap with E-track ends to hold the can in place.

I like how you added angles on it, making the walls higher towards the tire side and vice versa. Makes it look much more professional and fancy.

I do have a cereal problem. :twist:

Next up is the saw mount redo.
I ordered a toggle clamp from Amazon; I had no idea it was so big. It dwarfed the one it was replacing. The old one was completely worn out and destroyed, so the increase in strength is welcome, if it’ll fit.

It took some major rework to get it to where it wasn’t going to stab a back seat passenger in the back. The handle was cut off and flipped, and the safety latch was shortened.

By flipping the mount upside down, the upper standoff on the mount needed to be chopped off and flipped too. Without it, the mount’s gate would try to close on the saw’s bumper spikes.

    All painted and pretty!

I took one last minute to shorten an old e-track strap that I needed to retire from service for the Jerry can hold down.

    How it mounts:

I can finally check this carrier off my list of things to get done!

I’m trying to find the time to give a trip report from last week. :waiting:
Epic trip where Hannah (Varg) performed flawlessly and logged over 1000 miles. Over half of that was off pavement.

Meanwhile, here’s an early B-day present to myself. I’ve had this saved on my phone for almost 2 years, but I couldn’t justify the cost at over $300. I checked the other day just to drool over them again, and to my surprise, they were having a 25% off sale!

The seats are out of an ‘01 Hyundai Accent… not exactly common. They’re great seats, so I don’t want them to get too trashed. This company, Seat Covers Unlimited, was the only one I could find that offered covers for this model, and they are excellent quality in neoprene. Very pleased.
