Question - My clutch peddle makes a rythmic clicking sound, that follows the engine idle. When I put the slightest presure on the clutch peddle, the clicking stops. Side to side presure makes it less noticeable.

I am NOT a mechanic, nor have I had this jeep long. Only two weeks... smile. A client gave it to me in lew of his attorney fees....... I think I got the better deal.... SMILE... now if only one of my clients has a CJ-7 Scamber ;)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

sounds like your linkage is adjusted wrong and your throwout bearing is riding on your pressure plate. this will cause premature throwout failure. try loosining your clutch linkage slightly and see if it goes away. if you have a hydraulic linkage this will sound a little strange but somewhere in the setup is a way to adjust the position of the clutch throwout fork, that is where you need to adjust. :coffee:

Der, I could have read closer, you have a hydraulic setup, I fairly certain of that  :coffee: :coffee:

all CJ 258s thru 1986 were mechanical linkage
juice systems only on 4 cyl models

a thorough inspection of the clutch linkage might be needed; all pivot points in the linkage set-up are very prone to wear/slop
as mentioned above, it could just be adjustment
you could also have a broken motor mount or trans mount which would allow movement when pedal is depressed

would that be "pro bono" or " pro jeepo"? Sounds like you made a good deal. As stated above, likely a linkage or adjustment issue.

Make sure the linkage isn't just transmitting another noise. I had that problem with my gas pedal. The cable was against the pcv valve and transmitting a lot of noise in the cabin. As was suggested earlier, check the motor mounts and transmission mount. And look for any loose bolts.
