cherokee column disassembly question

    i have gotten the steering wheel off of an 87 cherokee laredo tilt column.

    i need to get into the upper "guts" how do i get the top plate off that covers the turn switch, ignition switch, and horn wiring?

    anyone know even tho this isn't a cj?

    You have to have a tool called a lock plate remover. This compresses the spring under neath the round lock plate so you can remove the wire retaining ring, similar to a snap ring. Then you can get to the turn signal switch, ign key and tumbler set, etc. If you are taking it apart farther you will also need the pivot pin tool to further disassemble. Nickmil.

    ahhh... that makes perfect sense. i noticed what apeared to be a weird locking piece of plate under two of the slots..

    i may have to make a trip to the auto parts store or figure out a rig on my own.
