Dana 44 axle tube diameter

    Can someone tell me if the axle tube diameter is larger in the 1971 D44 rear end with the flanged offset axle than the one that is in my 69. If so, is the 71 the same size as the Wagoneers?

    Yes, the flanged housing has larger diameter axle tubes than the tapered housings.
    I don't recall the exact figure, I think it was 2 3/4 inch. I don't know about the Wagoneers, except they would be wider.

    Flanged offset and centered CJ rear 44's are 2 3/4" tubes and most Wagoneer flanged 44's are also 2 3/4" tubes. Tapered axle CJ 44's are 2 1/2" tubes as are most Wagoneer tapered axle 44's.
