I am rebuilding a 67 CJ5 which was previously used as a snow plow. Subsequently I found it had several cracks in the frame especially around the front spring hangers/mounts. I have a frame in very good condition which is set up for a 4 cylinder. I have already moved the motor mounts to this frame and want to install a D-30 front axle. My question is about the bumber mounted to the D-27 axle which prevents the drive shaft from hitting the starter. I will be putting a 2 1/2 inch lift in and have already purchased an SM465 (much heavier trans). Can I just purchase taller frame mounted axle stops or do I need to move the axle bumper over to the D-30 axle. This jeep will be driven primarily off road (where it is happy) for hunting.

    Thanks Phil

The Dana 27 bumper is not needed. My Dana 30 has been wheeled since 2005 with no problems.

What McRuff said. With the lift kit the bumper should not be needed.

Thanks for the response. Mike looking at you jeep in photobucket, I notice that you have your axle bump stops lowered 2 or 3 inches. Would that be necessary for a 2 1/2 inch lift?
