Quick question, I took my transmission and transfer case, T14a and d18, to get serviced/repaired. I know nothing about these things... The shop has had it for about 2 weeks and they have broken it down and all and know what it needs. The total cost after labor and parts for both is going to be a little over $1300!! Is that a reasonable price for the 2? I was thinking I was going to have to drop some cash since I am not doing it myself but that seemed a little high and I wanted a few opinions... Thanks!

Seems high as you can purchase rebuilt units out the door for that. Maybe cheaper. Also depends on what they needed and what their shop rate is, and how much cleanup is involved. Frequently I have more labor in cleaning and prep than in the actual rebuild process. Parts can be expensive and hard to find for a V-6 T-14 also. Usually takes me 3-4 transmissions to get enough good used parts (that are not available new) plus parts that are available new. That adds up quick. Did they give you a list of parts needed?
I've found sometimes it's less expensive to purchase a rebuilt unit than trying to rebuild what you have.

I just paid $1100 for the same work in Tucson, AZ last year but needed lots of parts (really worn out!). It was a '69 V6 T-14. Also included was rebuilding the E-brake.

I paid $800.00 for the transmission rebuild, (T86) and emergency brake. All new seals on the transfer case.

I was quoted $1000 for the T90 alone - went the "new" rebuilt route for significantly less.

Before my Jeep was given to me, my dad had the tcase, and t14 rebuilt plus , new tie rod, drag link, and tres. IIRC the total for all was 1,350. I have the receipt in a file, I can check if you'd like.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I did get a parts list, the price seems a little high but I don't feel as bad knowing its not an out of this world price compared to others. I'm just going to get them to go ahead with the rebuild, I'll have a warranty with it so if any problems arise down the line that will be nice. Hopefully no serious problems with the dauntless v6 come up! I'm almost tapped out! Until taxes come back anyways! :)

    Merry Christmas!
