72 Scout II Axle

    Need some input here.

I have the access to a Dana44 out of a 72 Scout II. Would it be worth the effort of shortening it up and putting discs on it for my front end? Currently, I'm in planning phase and someone offered the axle up. The overall goal, is to have a safer ride but, maybe I should look for a different axle to start with...I don't know.

In my mind. I know it's a LOT of work, time, and effort. Would this monster be an issue when I install a sagi or will it benefit from it? Do I go with the tried and true D30 conversion?

    Any thoughts, are much appreciated.

**EDIT** I have a 57 CJ5 with the original set up and a fiberglass tub.

If still running the F-head just install the 30. It's a lot of work to narrow them properly. The knuckles will need changed or modified as the steering arms are way too long for proper steering geometry in a Jeep. I'm guessing this is a drum brake unit now? If so you can use the 6 bolt spindles on GM or Jeep knuckles. If already disc then they use an 8 stud bolt up to the knuckle. With a 4 cylinder a 44 is kind of overkill in the front.

    Nick,

    Thanks for the response.

In doing the measurements, it seemed a little obscene but you never know! It's all about learning at this point so, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 30 and go on from there.
