I like having mine stock my CJ5 has not been modified over the years, so I'm keeping it stock other than I want to put a overdrive on it some day. I also figure if the Generator made it this long why change. I got all my parts for about 30 dollars.

The generator in my wagon does the job fine. Only real issue with a generator is no charge at idle speed, and basically lower output.

On the other hand (unlike an alternator), in a pinch a generator will power up even when the battery is dead, allowing a rolling 'jump-start' if you are alone in the boonies.

Update, finished putting generator back together today. Installed and op checked. Amp light out, charging battery. The re-assembly went well had to make all new seals, I used felt from a craft store. For removing rust Evaporust works well had to let the parts soak over night. I rewraped the coil fields with new cloth tape from ACE Hardware. I could not find new Field Coil screws with the same head dia or angle but the larger head size works well just sticks out some. Going for a Drive check. Thanks for the advice.
