Windshield Questions

I know the 75 and 76 had different windshields. I read somewhere that you can put a 76 windshield on a 75, but will need a 76+ hard top because of the shape of the windshield. Are the brackets interchangeable?

 

Which brackets are you talking about? Hard top brackets? Hinges for the windshield? Windshield hold downs?

 

The hinges that allow it to fold down.

 

No. the whole upper bracket system is different. On a pre 76 there is a part that actually goes up into the windshield. On a 76 and later, the upper part identical to the lower. They will bolt in place but the hinges need to match the windshield.

 

So a 75 with a 76+ windshield would need pre 76 or 76+?

Early is 1975 and earlier.
Late is 1976 and later.

Use Early hinges with an Early windshield, or Late hinges with a Late windshield. You cannot mix them. Either will fit on a '75 cowl. I understand that, to make a late windshield fit, you have to enlarge the holes a little, and adapt the catches. Early catches latch to the dash. Late catches use a big thumbscrew that screws into the dash.

Only a Late top fits on a Jeep with a Late windshield. Only an Early top fits on a Jeep with an Early windshield.
