I have a 71 CJ5 V6 with 10"drum brakes. The PO of the jeep removed the wheel stops off the axle tube so my tires rub on the springs on hard left and right turns. is there a fix to this short of welding on new ones, or do I just know this will happen and take it easy. will a steering stabilizer help any? I currently have 31/10.5/15 and want to move up to 33's will this make it worse.

    thanks

If you get the same width 33 inch tire it will be the same.

Just to clarify what front axle you got?
    Without knowing your front axle,

You could change your rims to a different offset,

    Put some wheel spacers on

    And steering stabilizer won't help.

Are the threaded "nuts" still on the axle housing? If so just put some bolts in there. Personally I'd gently round the heads a bit with a sander or file but will work without doing that. 3/8"x24 iirc but might be different. If the "nuts" have been removed they can be added back on.
The stops do more than just keep the tires out of the springs. They also keep the u-joints from operating at too much of an angle and keep the closed knuckles from turning too sharp causing damage to components and seals.

Just for my own education I went out to look at my brothers '71 CJ6. Axle stops are on the front on the D27.
On my '61 3B, D25, the stops are on the back side of the axle.
    I never noticed that before.
It doesn't look like too difficult a piece to fab up if you can weld.
If you can't weld, , take some classes, or establish a friendship with a good welder.
Sooner or later, you will need them.
