So took the Jeep out today for the first ride since the complete rebuild. I picked up a pair of "4 in leaf springs" of CL and don't think they are quite 4" of lift and they ride like a brick.....jeep toss

After some research it looks like this is somewhat typical for the early cjs and I see some people talking about putting a YJ lift kit on it for the wider springs and extending the hangers. What would you recommend for a YJ kit for this and any info on whats needed would be great. Also would it make sense to do a shackle reversal while I am changing the hangers anyways?

When you installed the springs, did you tighten all the nuts fully before lowering the jeep back to the ground?

Its a 74 CJ5 and picked up the lift of craigslist so don't know the brand. As far as the shackle nuts I am going to double check that today because they could be over tightened not allowing proper flex. I don't think this is the case though and am probably going to look for some type of yj spring swap.

you want to loosen the shackle nuts and jump up and down on the front and rear to flex the springs to unload the bushings and then torque the nuts back down.
