I'm thinking about adding an under-seat fuel tank to my '72. What would need to be changed, other than adding the fuel filler housing? Are the seat brackets the same?

Seat bracket on '72-'75 moves the seat closer to the side of the Jeep. When I tried to put intermediate driver's seat in the Daughter's '70 the seat bolster hit the filler. Others however have said they didn't have this issue. The bracket clears the tank fine.
Holes will need cut in the floor for the drain and fuel feed depending on which tank you use. You will also need to dri holes for the tank hold down strap.

Nick is correct, I did it to my 75 with no issues at all. I plumbed a manual gas valve to switch between the seat tank and rear tank. No issues with the drivers seat at all. The second hardest part of the project was finding the filler neck body piece thing. The hardest part for me was taking a saw to perfectly good classic sheet metal.:) The extra fuel is nice to have.

    FWIW,

I did this to my '73 CJ-5 thirty years ago. No major issues that I recall, except that the under seat tank always smells of gas, with a vented cap so close to your left elbow. Back then I used a mechanical valve - today I would use one of the 6-way electric valves.

I've also thought about mounting the new Rotopax cans under the drivers seat.

My 75 had the tank set up under the seat and I took it out. x2 on the fuel smell plus it stuck out about 6 inches past the seat on the floor board. I'm 6'4" and it's difficult enough for me to get in and out.
