I've been trying to find a picture of a flatty with newer CJ7 axles. I just picked up a doner 86 CJ7 with the Dana 44 rear. 3.73 gears. Planning on putting them into my 56 DJ3A. Buick 225, SM420 and a Dana 300 case. Saggy steering, and whatever else I can swap over from the CJ.
Looking for more offroad than a daily driver. I already have a 2000 TJ.
I know they are going to stick out, but not sure how much. i can run a stock 7 or 8 x 15 to keep the width down a little.

Stock your 51" WMS to WMS on the front, where an '86 WT D30 should be 56". You can figure an extra 2.5 to 3.5" (depending on wheel and tire setup) out on each side. This will get into the rear wheel openings.

It's much easier to swap in the NT D30 and D44 so you don't have to hack up the body (or lift it too far). But that is my view and why I put a NT D30 up front and a FF kit in the rear.

Hmmmm, only planning on running 31-32's. Not real interested in hacking the body though.
Only want to run minimal lift as well. Maybe I could tradem for NT's, Just started and things always change.

I'm running 33X10.5s in my Avitar and warloch.com has more pics if you want to see what D30 on the front and the D44 FF in the rear looks like. It also has Holbrooks on it for @ 2.5" lift and a 2" body lift to make it cleaner in the engine compartment.

Yes, they are NT axles. I have a set of Waggy D44s (2 actually) that I will play with for a possible cut down on a future build. I have to clear off some others first to get room and time in the shop.

My doner is an 86 CJ7 with the Dana 44 rear and 3.73's. Hoping it's not too wide and can live with them as it is what I have to work with. I would like to use it because It has all the steering, driveshafts, tcase, ebrake etc. and only cost me $350 and can sell off the rest to pay for it and come out ahead.

You know you will need to cut the drive shafts down, right?

Would wheels with different offset/backspacing be helpful?

    Hey Mitsu.
Yep, will look into that if it's just way too wide.
Now looking for a set of YJ springs to put under it
Sold both commando's and bought Matt's yellow TJ..

Problem with plan, Dana 300 and a centered rear will require a drive shaft that will be too short and too much angle. looks like maybe go back to a 18 tcase and offset rear.
