Thanks guys. The fabrication doesn't bother me. I just wanted a more educated opinion before I started building.
My 58 is actually on a 71 CJ5 chassis first off. A friend gave me a "New" set of 4 stock '95 YJ springs that I was planning on putting on the...
I can't seem to find any one piece axles for the Dana44 in the rear of my CJ5. The rear axle came out of a 71 CJ5. Does anybody make any?
That clears up a good bit. Hopefully next week I'll get the electricity repaired in my garage and I'll get in there with the AC and tear the axle...
I finally got around to checking my rear hubs. They are tight on the axle but I have a lot of endplay on the entire axle. And I'm having trouble...
Many thanks.
Really feeling kind of stupid right now. Just too another few wacks at the pass side drum with my brass hammer and it came off just like the other...
The spacers are just spacers. They came with the truck. I leave them on for stability off road. That cleared up a good bit. Many thanks. My last...
Just looks that way. I'm more worried about finding parts when I need them. I was hoping to be able to do a one piece axle conversion to it but...
Is it normal for the driver side to have a standard drum and the pass side to have a weird 2 piece drum? [IMG]
P.S. The Jeep is a 58 tub on a 71 frame and drivetrain.
Took a quick picture of the axle: [IMG] The left drum came off the hub like any other but the right looks like a 2 piece and won't come off....
I recently took my wheels off to look for the source of a noise and discovered I have the 2 piece axles. There is a lot of play in the rear hubs...
I'm not completely finished with mine either. It'd driveable but I don't have too much left. What part of LA are you in? Matt
The front end is kind of shakey. I hadn't committed to it or anything. My stock springs are wore slap out as well as the shackles and mounts. I...
Did the early CJ5 ever have a track bar on either axle? I'm thinking of adding one or 2.
According to all the "decoders" I looked at it's a DJ3A and a 1960 model. Apparently swapped to a 4wd.
Looks like the Serial/model# are 56337 19333
The gas tank is in the rear with the filler over the tail light. It has a tailgate but it has no "Willys" badge. The tires are less than 4 years...
All I know of it's history is that an old man used it for 20+ years to herd cattle. Up until he passed away 2 years ago.
