Under seat tool box uses

My fiberglass tub doesn't have the tool box and I doubt the aftermarket ones will fit, so I was thinking about making one since there is practically zero storage and I need something to hold up the seat.

If I make one it can be anything; as original, a recess for a waterproof pelican box, a smaller compartment and subwoofer...etc. etc.

So how do others use it and what don't you like about it?

mines packed with tools

Don't use mine anymore. Access is to difficult with high back seats. Deep water crossing really make a mess in it.

I keep all my tools and spare parts in ammo boxes in back. The under-seat tool box will (someday) be removed for a second gas tank. No that I can use!

 

I didn't think they'd be very water tight. I'm planning on M38A1 seats coverd with a marine vinyl.

 

i dont go in any mud(if i can help it)
and i have original seats.

 

Mine gets packed to the brim with stuff when off road. I have high backs that recline so I recline the seat back then tilt it forward. Still decent access that way. My tool box is pretty waterproof. There's s rubber seal in the lid to seal it up.

What about a drawer that can slide forward so you don't have to tilt the seat forward to get to it? I'm thinking something like that for the driver's side of the '6.

 

That's interesting. I could be an insulated cooler.

 

I'd be afraid it would open up and block the pedals ,that wouldn't be too fun

 

Glass body on my 3B also and I wanted really stout seat mounts so a top lid conventional layout was not a real option. I built an aluminum front loading version with a deeply recessed door to make opening with a prybar a bit difficult. I keep all the hand tools, snatch block, and recovery strap in it.

A bottle jack is another name for a hydraulic jack ... there's a resemblance.

A scissors Jack is ok. One came with the Jeep. They can fit in locations a bottle jack won't. I kinda worry about storing a bottle jack on its side too... likely ok.

 

i have stored it in there since i bought the slug.
it isnt leaking or anything.
i bought it because it would fit in there.

The biggest thing I keep in the underseat tool box is the head of my 'handyman jack' in a plastic bag to keep the dirt down.

The beam of the jack is under the hood. I have a folding shovel across the top of the grill and it serves as the jack handle.

When i was younger thats where i kept my beer stash when we went out into the hills, no one ever noticed the toolbox there. Now it is currently the storage place for my oddfire flywheel lol
