as an upgrade for a more heavy duty set up....Does anyone know which dana axle's will fit the 74 cj5..... do they have to be manufactured from a jeep like a wagoneer etc or will other manufactures fit like a ford etc....
What have you all done for your axle swap?

Anything will fit with enough time and $. I doubt there are any axle sets that will "bolt in" without some modification. Usually you decide on which axles you want based on what you are going to do with it and how much horsepower you are generating and figure out a way to put them in.

    Things to consider:

    1)Budget
    2)Rock crawler or occasional trails
3)DD [Daily Driver] or trailer queen
4)aesthetics, will it have the cool look you want

Once you have that figured out, there will be things to consider like tire size,
that will dictate how big an axle, and then spring over or spring under. All these have a $ associated with them.

You'll have to figure out wants/needs.

Oh and one other thing, READ READ READ. Look at others build threads and see what they've done and see of any of it fits your wants/needs. Good luck

I agree with the other two guys. It all depends on what you want it to be doing and how much power your putting to the axles. For my swap, I put in a set of toyota axles. For what im lookiing for and what I need my jeep to do, they seem to fit the bill perfect.

You should have a pretty stout drivetrain in that thing even if you swap in a reasonably sane V8.
Narrow Dana 44 rear with 1 pc axles and 3.73...whats not to like?

Look in the builds forum as there are posts in there what other people have done. Might also try the search function as well as this has been covered a lot.

Waggy 44's from pick and pull are a good choice. 10 inches wider that stock with 30 spline axles. No matter what you swap in it's going to take some work.
