    This is something I never thought about before. The retaining ring is what holds the axle in. Huh.

    I guess it's better than a C clip.

    As long as the shaft is in good shape and the parts used are quality parts it's really not an issue. The bearing is a press fit anyway. The collar is a very tight press fit and is extra insurance. Problems typically occur due to poor quality parts, damaged shaft, or improper installation.

    Yeah, the going for the axle and coming back with another JEEP is kinda cool. When I got it home my wife just laughed and said " Well at least it runs!'.
    My mom was visiting Sunday and said "Thats the first JEEP you've bought in a while that was put together!"
    Beat on the fender and the bumper on Sunday, it looks like a fender now.
