I am trying to replace the trans mounts on my 68 cj5, 225.
This may not be possible, but can anyone ID my transmission for me from these pics?

    ftp://cj5:water@ftp.p-a-c-e.com/gt

    Thank you!

See that raised rib running up the passenger side of the tranny, just above the back end of that rib there should be some raised letters and numbers, try to clean them off and post them. I still say that looks alot like my T-14.

I am thinknig more the t90 because of those two cast peices jutting out the driver side. the t90 used them when some trannies were column shift. can you see if T90 is stamped on the tranny shifter cover??

It doesnt look nothing like my T90 no drain and fill plugs on driver side. It also looks to be biger, wider and my 90's mounting plate is diff . It looks to small to be a 18 so im guessing 14

as mentioned above, T90 T86 fill/drain plugs are located on drivers side
these transmissions are non-synchronized into first gear
T14 fill/drain plugs are located on pass side of case; first gear is also synchronized
from the large bolt pattern to the bellhousing adapter, and the location of the fill/drain holes, I am inclined to say T14 transmission
BTW, there are T14 side shift cases, Jeepster model, console shift I believe

Have to agree with JpFlat2a and Lynn. Looks like a T-14 judging by fill hole location and transmission bolt pattern. Could tell for sure if I could see the top bolt pattern. Nickmil.

Everyone thanks for the great responses!!
Looks like the consensus is T14.
Looking at vintagejeepparts.com the T90 and T14 mounts are around 9 bucks each.
Maybe I will just get both and see what fits better.

I will also clean-up the passenger side and look for any markings.
If I find nada, I will take the cover off the body and take a look.
    I just gotta know!!

Thanks again for all the input!
    Great bunch of people!

Thanks everyone for the input!! Your guys are great!
Here is what a vendor told me:

    ----
Their best guess was a T-14. (based on the pictures)
If you can find an ID on the outside T-14 should start with a 1302.
Also, a T-14 has 6 bolts holding the top cover and the case is 8 3/4 long.
T90's have a "T90 or T90A" cast into the side fo the case.
The T90 was not used with the 225 engine.
    Normally a 225 would have a T86 or T14.
The Tranmission mount for the T-14, T98, T18, T86 are the same.
    ----

I measured the length of my case and it is 8 3/4 long.
Could not see if it has 6 bolts on top or not. Need to pull the body cover.
I scraped off most of the gunk and still did no see any ID marks.
    So I think I have a T-14.
Anyone know the length of the T86?
Or how many bolts are on top of the T86?
It would be great to rule it out.
Hmm.. maybe we already did that by the fact the drain/fill holes are on the pass side.

Hate to tell you this, but you didn't tell us anything we didn't already know.;)
Why do you think we told you it was a t14.
If this thing has a sychro'd 1st gear there is no other transmission it could be and fit all the other criteria.

So based on what I learned here (thanks everyone!), and on research, I purchased the trans mount for the T-14.

    I received the mount yesterday.
It matches to my old mount. With one exception!

The holes that match to the trans. are off by about an inch. I don't have specific mesearuments yet, but the holes on my mount are about 4 inches apart. While the holes on the trans are about 5 inches apart.

Looking at my old trans mount, it looks like someone took the t-14 mount and drilled holes spaces wider to make things work -sort of.

Here is where it gets tough. Sure, I can drill the holes to match. But this places the holes pretty much over the holes for the mount to the crossmember (probably need to have the mount in front of you to understand this). This causes an issue on access to the bolt - no easy way to tighten things up.

I have a few ideas on how to get things to work. But, my real confusion is - why does this trans not match up? Or - maybe this is a common issue? Or, maybe my t-14 trans is from some other source?

    Thoughts?

Just FYI, I have one with the 14a cast in and one without. Doesn't seem to be a consistent identifier.

I feel your pain on this, I went throught the same thing about 6 months ago when I replaced my mounts. I wound up taking one for the 4 cylinder and making an adapter plate for it. I bought 4 different mounts for the trans, 2 were advertised for the t-14, one because it looked very close to the one that came out of the jeep. none of them fit. the one that came in the jeep when I got it turned out to be from some other trans and to this date I have yet to find the right mount for this setup. :stout:
