great progress! Did you check that the plug wires are going to the right cylinders? I remember years ago I put the wires on the distributor cap wrong and had the darnedest time figuring out why it wouldnt run right! Amazingly the hurricane will run with all sorts of stuff messed up. You might also have to fiddle with the timing some more or adjust the carb to get it to run right? Adding a pertronix ignition module really improved how my jeep ran and it is literally a single wire so easy installation!

I found little Flat Fender Repair shop in town. Just an old fella that like to work on willys, tucked back in a mini warehouse. Was busy working on a cj6, cj5, and Commando.

I tucked my tail between my legs, left my pride (for doing this all myself), and went by and talked to him for a while. He is my new best friend !!!

It would be a month before he could get to it. He suggested I do a compression, check, and go from there. Also he mentioned that the original carter YF might just be WORN OUT, sucking air from worn butterfly (side) bushings, etc. I did put a carb kit in it when I rebuilt the motor.

He also did mention putting on a pertronix ignition module. And I might do that, too.

Compression is 112, 115, 117. 115. I think I'm good with that. I ordered a Solvex carb, and got it installed. OMG what a difference. I could actually drive it down the street and back.

This morning I'll put the vacuum gauge on it and get it timed a little better, and see where we are.

Things are back on the right track.

Been a while but we have deployed the jeep at the farm.

"Flat Fender Jeep Repair" Lewisville, TX got it running like a champ.
    (Hope "shout-outs" are allowed)

We had the upholstery done at a local shop for the tune of $600 ($300 ea seat.)

The driver seat's springs were shot, so I opted for a plywood reconstruct. Turned out well.

My sister did some top interior cushions for us.
We did a few little things like console and interior lights. Horse mat in the bed.

I had this little toolbox the has a bottom frame that mounted to the mat and the toolbox is removable.

We cut the old top up to make "safari top", (and still have the doors in tact.)
That is Gma resting in the shade as we tear out an old fence. :)

We will bring her home in a month or so to get a heater put in, & probably a new top for winter. But right now at @103degrees that is waaay on the bottom of the list.

We'll call this a success and let this thread die. Thanks for following.
