what holds up your hood? i've always just thrown a rag on the windsheild frame and laid the hood on it when working on my 62. now my jeep is restored i don't wanna scratch the paint/dent the hood. i've got to imagine that they had a hood prop rod back then, right? i've tried looking for one but can't find one. any suggestions?

just flip the hood open carelessly ,,,,now a polished metal spot on the hood that never rusts.

Yep just toss mine back too. The intermediates have a support that pivots from the passenger side near the front lip.

2x. Never have seen one stock with any type of support rod. Wagons/pickups yes, but not CJ's.

my 71 has a built in prop in the hood. all the later ones did too. It holds the hood open at about 45 degree angle, so I still lay it back on the windshield when I am doing real work.

The Daughter's mid '69 (titled as a '70) has a prop rod stock just like the intermediates.

Ditto, my 70 has a nice factory prop rod that's mounted on the bottom side of the hood. I missed seeing it for awhile.

I don't use it. Too easy to lay the hood back on the windshield brackets.

No prop rod. The high loop in front fits in the bracket at the top wo the windshield when hood is up. The lower one towards the back is for a strap when the windshield is folded down.

    Re: what holds up your...?

For your year production there is a tall loop (as shown by noahlon) that locks into a spring loaded latch (the same as used for pass seat latch) and this keeps the hood and W/S frame scratch and dent free. My 66 came stock with them. The stock W/S has pre-drilled and threaded holes in the top center for this latch.

    That is most definitely debatable.

As far as prop rods, I have the big hoop that hooks in place, although, I have yet to figure out how to reach up there and hook it in. :?

    Re: what holds up your...?

thanks everyone. i never knew about the hook latch system on the windsheild, mine never had the latch. i'll have to choose finding a prop rod that'll fit or find that latch online. i really don't wanna lay the hood back on the windsheild and scratch up my new paint. thanks for the input guys!

You could drill a hole in your new paint, and install a TJ hood bumper..
