Transfer Case Shims

Where can I find a Dana 18 shim set with different thicknesses? All the sets I've found are all the same shims. I would get that as you fine-tune the shaft play you would need to combine different shim thicknesses to obtain the desired 0.004 to 0.008 range. Thanks.

 

When I did mine I had the same problem. I reused my old ones in conjunction with the new ones. If thats not possible you may need to buy some shim stock and make your own.

 

Thanks! One might think that is almost required when you have to make such accurate adjustments that several thicknesses are available. That sucks!

 

Yes, I found it really stupid that all the shims were the same thickness.

 

I've always reused the original shims, as they usually had two or three different thicknesses. Sorry, but I don't have any spares handy.

My TC only has 2 shims. I would like to have more handy before starting the process.

 

Novak or Herm doesn't have such a kit? I know I got one somewhere but can't recall where. Or maybe I bought one each of the 3 different sets? I don't recall.

 

Or Walck's? I'd call Walck's and ask.

I ran into the same problem when i rebuilt mine too. I ended up having to buy two kits and stack a bunch of the thin ones together. I thought i was doing something wrong, so i checked it like 14 times, but it needed that much every time. I think the factory had a source of way thicker shims to chose from.
