search 'knuckle pudding'....FSM says 140wt oil, but experience has proven that is probably too thin, and it leaks out. Full on No2 grease (chassis grease) won't be fluid enough to lubricate the kingpin bearing. So some people use a mix of grease and oil to get the right consistency. Some use JD cornhead grease. Some use a 00 weight grease like lubriplate or CV joint grease.

On My '66 I used a Dana 30 with disc brakes. Solved many of my axle problems.

look up knuckle pudding. there's a few different thoughts on how to make it, or if pre-made cornhead grease is what you need...

This *is* the pudding. Premade, just open the hole and squirt it in.

Anyone know how to get the ring off the starter motor shaft to change out the pinion gear? It looks like a snap ring but it’s not..

    it's a ring on a ring
take a socket tap outside inward to bendix
then the round snap ring on shaft can be removed

What are these called? Exhaust header washers? Manifold straps?

I cleaned the rust off of them. Do they get painted before they go back on? Or stay bare metal since they get so hot?

    Lock tabs.

I'm guessing they are supposed to be replaced after each use.

Help jog my memory from the “body parts“ box.

the two on the top are seat brackets right?
Then moving down is the gas tank strap?
And the two on the bottom are......?

    nickmil In mothballs.

The top are not stock that I recognize but they could be seat brackets. The strap is an under seat fuel tank hold down. The bottom two look like battery tray supports.

    Thanks Nickmil!
Next up is a question about this shift boot. The one on the L came with my Jeep. The one on the R is I think from KW as a new reproduction. Is either “correct?”

Oh and how about my sweet bowling ball D18 shift knob?!?

I thought these were supposed to be 5/16-18, but my single stick appears to be 3/8-24.

Could these be side mount mirror bars?

I think Nick is right that they are home-brew seat brackets. Could be for a back seat - see if they match the existing holes in the rear floor.

The boot on the left is aftermarket of some kind. The one on the right is the "correct" boot, Omix. The Omix boot on the right won't last a day without tearing once installed, I predict. Better to use the "Mr Gasket" boot you can get on Amazon and probably from Jeggs and Summit. Pricey but should last a few years.

As Tim says, the right shift boot is correct. There are still some original military stock boots out there that will last half a lifetime. Those lower bars in the photo are firewall battery support bars. The top bars are not stock pieces. The correct single-stick knob is kind of mushroom shaped, and has fine vertical ribs around the outermost diameter.

Military boot seals to the transmission, not the floor pan. Better in IMHO.
