    Hey guys,

I am in need of an extension to my steering column. It's not stock, but the stock shaft works with it. What I am planning to do is replace the stock shaft with a borgeson shaft. That shaft is larger in diameter and will contact my header. I have searched online for an extension for the end of the column to increase the angle down to the steering box for more clearance with no luck. I'm thinking that even an extension from like a body lift would work, but I can't find anyone that sells just parts of them.

    Any ideas??????

    Thanks.

Why not take the shaft off, go to the nearest tractor shop and have them weld on PTO shafts and then get home and cut to length?

    Well,

I got the shaft installed last night. I had to "persuade" the on header tube a bit to make the shaft clear. Sure hope this tightens up the steering some more. I now have a newer steering box, heavy duty tie rod and drag link, steering box brace, and now a new steering shaft. What else is there???

Ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, spring bushings, u-bolts, cracks in frame, steering box mount......
Hopefully you won't have problems with these, but you asked!:D

    Dang,

    I had to ask:D
Also have new tie rod ends
    u bolts
    spring bushings

But I don't know how to check ball joints.

No cracks in frame, but I haven't checked the steering box mount.

Well, at least the list is smaller:twisted:

Try jacking up the axle till the tire clears the floor by an inch or two.
Get a longish pry bar and have a helper pry the tire up and down while you look and feel for any movement between the knuckles. If your wheel bearings are too loose, you will feel the wheel move and clunk back and forth, too, so you have to determine which is which by feeling the ball joints with a kinda "vulcan mind meld" technique.

My steering shaft touched my headers lightly. To prevent this, I disconnected the shaft and swung it out of the way.

Then, I heated the area of the header tube that the shaft rubbed, until it turned red, then tapped a flat spot in the tube, to provide clearance.

You have to use the torch with caution....the tubes are thin, and it would be easy to burn through!
