So I changed the rear diff fluid and resealed the cover, come to find out with the proper fluid level in the diff the pinion side leaks. The jeep has been sitting a couple years, any chance it may reseal with a couple good heat cycles when we get the jeep back together?
Looks like a pain to change with a couple special tools needed..

    It probably won't reseal.
Its not hard to do. Once you remove the yoke nut, a screwdriver will remove the seal. Tap the new one in with a dead blow and a piece of wood and put the yoke and nut back on.

Sweet, what about removing the pinion nut, do you need that special wrench or is the weight of the jeep (frame and rear tires on the ground) enough to get it off of their? I spose worse case ill build a version of the yoke wrench out of stock and the welder..

russo Hope is not a method

I use a pipe wrench and a good cheater pipe. Works fine for me. The last pinion seal I changed only took about 15 minutes coffee through cleanup.

Before installing the new seal put some vaseline or grease on the back side where the garter spring is. It helps keep it from popping off when installing the seal. Make sure you lightly lube the lips of the seal also.

Garter spring - very descriptive. Is that the actual name of that, or a descriptive term you made up?

don't forgrt to polish the yoke( on the sealing surface) before you but it back on. get a good seal that way.

I like to hose them down with PB Blaster and let them soak for a few hours before hitting them with the impact.
